The Last of the Autumn Colours

This photo was taken near the English school I work at. It's starting to get cool now. The daytime highs are in the low teens. Winter is definately on it's way.

Christmas Cake

Amy really likes Christmas cake. She couldn't keep her eyes off it after it came out of the oven.

Paul and Sherill's Wedding.

Paul and Sherill were happily married at their home in Glenfeild on Saturday 23rd of October. Welcome to the Thomson family Sherill! The occasion was attended by close family and friends. A number of people came from overseas to attend the event. The ceremony was down to earth in keeping with Paul and Sherill's desire. Despite some rain things ran smoothly and a great celebration was had.

Typhoon No.23

Above is the latest typhoon to hit Japan. It had us worried for a few days. Until this morning we were not sure whether it would strike Tokyo at the same time Amy and I were leaving for New Zealand or not. According to current forecasts it will be off the coast of Hokkaido when we fly out. What a relief that is.

Here' s an update.

It has been a busy week. I haven't posted any thing for a few days so it's about time I did. Amy has been doing very well at swimming recently. She loves diving into the water and has made good progress on her freestyle in the last few weeks. She has moved from just kicking to kicking with the all important arm actions. By no means perfect yet but it's a beginning. The main thing is she enjoys it. We are also getting ready to go to New Zealand for my brother Paul and his partner Sherills' wedding on October 23rd. It's going to be great! Amy and I (Greg) will attend as Saori's pregnancy is at a stage that makes it difficult for her to travel. It has been almost 2 years since we were in New Zealand so it's going to be a good oportunity for us to catch up with family. We are really looking forward to it.

Kindergarten

For the last 6 months Amy has been attending her kindergartens' Pyon-chan class every Tuesday for an hour.(It's a kind of pre-kinder class.) Children attended with their mothers until last week when Amy went by the kindergarten bus. It's a practice for when she attends the regular class next April. Last week after promises of cake & flowers she got on bus without crying. However after she arrived at kindergarten, there was one teacher she didn't know. That made her upset. She cried so much she threw-up, as she sometimes does. This morning was kindergarten day again. When I left Amy was saying "I don't want to go". We'll see how it goes.

Saori's Blog

Saori has her own blog now. You can find it at: http://thomsonjblog.blogspot.com It is still in testing. There are a few things I need to do to make it commpletely Japanese, but it's made so check it out. It's now up to her to fill it with content. Enjoy.

Typhoon No. 22

Well it came and when very quickly. From our location we didn't really notice anything until about 4:30pm when the wind got very strong. By around 6 o'clock though most of it seemed to have passed and the rain stopped. We have had rain for the last few days so the dumping from this typoon easily pushed things over the limit. This quote from Reuters gives you some idea. "Torrential rain and high winds lashed the capital, halting service on several subway lines and flooding streets in parts of downtown Tokyo with knee-deep water."

Typhoon

Today is the first day of a 3 day weekend. Monday being Sports Day. According to weather reports the strongest typhoon in 10 years is approaching the Kanto region. What a way to start a holiday weekend. The worst isn't due untill later tonight. I'll keep you posted.

Here's a nice picture.

Amy. This was taken with my moblie phone. No, it's not the most expensive top of the range model. Just about all mobile phones come with cameras in Japan. The really cool thing I'm testing out here is sending stuff to this blog from my mobile phone by email. It works. Great!

Welcome

This is the Thomson's Blog. A place for us to rant, rave and comment on all thing's Thomson. It's also a place for me to play with web technology. Isn't this cool. I really do hope this grows into something and is not just one of those fad things. Well that's enough for a first post. Let's see how it looks.
