The Long Silence!

So much for a New Years Resolution of adding more stuff to this blog. So what have I been up to? Computer wise busy as always. At long last I've set up a wireless lan at home. It's been great. I've moved from Mandrake 10.1 to Kubuntu on my desktop. I recently upgraded from Edgy 6.10 to Feisty 7.02 with few problems so far. I'm currently looking into webcams. It appears the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX is supported by the gspca driver and should work well with most apps. I really would like the QuickCam Fusion. It would produce a much better picture but it's more expensive, the driver is still early in development and it doesn't appear to have the application support the older jpeg webcams have. Looking forward to setting it up!

Next Linux Upgrade

I have been looking around for a replacement for Mandrake 10.1, which I currently use, for some time. The Dapper release of Kubuntu has caught my eye. I have always liked KDE. All that totally unnecessary eye candy you can afford to run on a desk top sysem - it's great. So far I've just downloaded the "Kubuntu Desktop" cd and had a play. It's a live CD and an install CD all in one! Cool! I've been really impressed by the progress KDE has made. It feels very smooth to use now. Konqueror now has some really cool new features and significantly improved implementation of others. I'm really looking forward to having it all installed and set up. Now I just need to get everything backed up...

Shock Horror!!!

It's happened. It's been a whole year now and this is the sum total of my posting. Almost zero!! I will try again this year to become a better blogger. Yes, I know it's an up hill battle. But here goes...

Sakura!

It has been a spectactular cherry blossom season this year. The blossom, true to form, only lasted a short time but the warm weather couldn't have been better. From memory the blossom started appearing around Tuesday the 5th of April and continued until around Sunday the 10th. Sunday's weather was very windy. It blew a lot of the blossom off the trees and the green of the spring started to appear This signaled the beginning of the end of the cherry blossom. This stage of the Cherries growth is called Hazukura by the Japanese. Literally "Leaf Chreey Blossom".

The Latest Luke Pic

Looking more handsome by the day! Luke has become quite a good boy. He seems to cry only when he wants mum's milk and spends the rest of the time sleeping or quietly looking around. We are not holding our breaths but it is starting to look like Luke will be an, dare I say, easy-ish baby to care for.

Luke Has Arrived!

Luke was born on 3rd January 2005 at 2:08 AM. His weight was 3524 grams. Height 51 cm. Both he and Saori are doing well

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2005 everyone. We are spending the New Year period at Yasuko's (Greg's mother in law) house. We had a small party with Saori's sister, her husband and their daughter on New Year's Eve. A great time was had by all. Entertainment was provided by the children. (Amy 3yrs, Kimika 1yr) Baby's due date is tomorrow, January 2nd. We were hoping he would arrive earlier but I guess you can't schedule these things. In true keeping with the New Year holiday mood we are spending the day relaxing. I will try to redesign our web site. Seeing as I haven't updated it for many years any small change would be good. I'm not good at keeping New Year's resoulutions, is anyone, but I am going to update the site more. Part of the site is of course this blog. Stay Tuned!
